Johnson and Johnson ordered to pay $2.6m in pelvic mesh compensation

There have been emotional scenes outside the Federal Court in Melbourne after healthcare giant Johnson and Johnson was ordered to pay $2.6 million compensation to three women who were part of a class action on defective pelvic mesh impants. The judge found last November the mesh products had breached consumer law and Johnson and Johnson and two subsidiaries were negligent in failing to warn of their risks. More than 1300 women are signed up to the class action. The ruling is expected to be the first of many payouts.
