Longer summers ‘a consequence of climate change’

The Australia Institute’s Climate and Energy Director Richie Merzian says Australia is experiencing longer summers as a “consequence of climate change”. New research from the Australia Institute found summer temperatures were experienced for an average of 31 days longer between 1999 and 2018 when compared to the 1950s. Mr Merzian told Sky News a longer summer would have “a number of impacts across many different sectors”. "If you are your 70s and 80s, the summers you experienced in your childhood are no more," he said. “All these things added up are just part of the picture for what climate change looks like."
