Hundreds of jobs are expected to be cut as the Australia Associated Press (AAP) closes its doors after 85 years of business. Owners said the newswire service - which supplied copying, sub-editing and photography to newsrooms across the country - was no longer viable due to the increase in free online content producers such as Google and Facebook. The AAP’s CEO Bruce Davidson said consumers should share the blame for the company’s demise for their reluctance to pay for Australian journalism. Image: Getty
