Labor Senator Kristina Keneally says the Federal Government must explain “the disastrous” decision to allow passengers to disembark from the Ruby Princess Cruise, a bungle that has left more than 100 people infected with coronavirus. The Australian Border Force has denied culpability for the decision to let 2,700 disembark from the stricken liner on the March 19 after at least 130 have tested positive to the disease. One person, a 77-year-old female passenger, died in a Sydney hospital on Tuesday. NSW Health has denied total culpability but said it will release a report into the incident. Senator Keneally said the decision to allow the ship to dock is “gobsmacking”. “The prime minister said he would stop the cruise ship, he did not stop the cruise ship,” she said. “People were allowed to get off a cruise ship, the border security measures the commonwealth government put in place failed the Australian people.”
