Heavily armed police have stormed a Melbourne pub after a five-hour siege in the early hours of Monday. The Special Operations Group, police negotiators and the dog squad surrounded the Westmeadows Tavern on Ardlie Street in Melbourne’s north on Monday. Two men armed with rifles were believed to be holed up inside the venue after attempting to rob the pub on Monday morning. Victoria Police urged Melbourne residents to avoid the area until the situation is declared safe.
