HK Police cleared over protest actions

Activists have condemned a report by Hong Kong's police watchdog which found the response to pro-democracy protests was within regulations. The IPCC received more than 1700 complaints relating to alleged misconduct. The report criticised demonstrators for making claims of police brutality as a 'weapon of political protest' but will look into the use of tear gas. Leader Carrie Lam has rejected calls for an independent inquiry. Pro-democracy protests began last June over plans to extradite criminals to China. Image: AP
