Political consultant Jim Middleton says he is worried about a “second wave of economic impacts” when the government's JobKeeper program is phased out. April jobs figures were released on Thursday, revealing unemployment had risen to 6.2 per cent. “Whether that can be done in such a way that they can then transfer back to employment or whether, because so many companies have been out of business, they’ll be in a position to take up those workers,” Mr Middleton told Sky News. “Then what does that do for consumption, as at the moment it is propped up by JobKeeper,” he said. “That means return to growth is going to be slower.” Image: Getty
