More than 400 people were detained in towns and cities across Russia on April 21 as multiple demonstrations took place in support of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, human-rights watchdog OVD Info reported. In the eastern town of Magadan, up to 50 pro-Navalny protesters rallied before marching along a street, shouting slogans against President Vladimir Putin, according to Vesma Today, a local news outlet. Riot police followed and demanded they halt the march, before making at least eight arrests. The footage here, provided by Vesma Today, shows the march and the forceful detention of several participants by police. The widespread protests were called for by Navalny’s team, and timed to begin as Putin delivered an address to the Federal Assembly in Moscow. Several members of his team were detained before the protests began, including his press secretary, Kira Yarmysh, and lawyer Lyubov Sobol. Navalny’s health was reported to have deteriorated considerably as he continued a hunger strike in a prison in the Vladimir region, east of Moscow. Credit: Vesma Today via Storyful
