‘Timely and effective’ quarantine management saved ‘more than 30,000 lives’

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the “timely and effective” quarantine arrangements in Australia saved tens of thousands of people from dying from COVID-19. Mr Morrison said Australia’s quarantine methods, which were different from other OECD countries, stopped people from catching the virus. “Had we gone down the same path and not taken the steps that we did take, more than 30,000 Australians would be dead today … were it not for the timely and effective measures that this government put in place,” he said. Mr Morrison said the governments collaborated with the states and territories to make sure Australians were safe and the economy was strong through the pandemic.
