NASA's plan to return spaceflight capabilities to the United States is a step closer after a SpaceX rocket successfully launched from Florida on a mission to dock with the International Space Station. The Crew Dragon capsule, which could soon ferry two astronauts to the orbiting lab in place of Russian Soyuz rockets, launched atop a Falcon 9 rocket on Saturday, carrying a sensor-laden dummy named Ripley. NASA has relied on Russian technology to send astronauts off Earth since its Space Shuttle program ended in 2011. Crew Dragon is expected to dock with the Space Station late Sunday night.
