Australia’s building sector is in a ‘crisis of confidence’

The Industry Minister says Australia's building sector is in a 'crisis of confidence' and is calling on the states and territories to back a national taskforce to oversee the industry. Karen Andrews has told Sky News ‘there is nothing that stops the states from working together, other than their own reluctance to do so’. ‘They have their own building regulations but I think there should be some consistency of those building regulations,' she says. Ms Andrews hopes states and territories will come to the table to resolve issues plaguing the industry at a building ministers’ forum on Thursday. Her remarks come as five of Australia’s largest business groups push for government intervention to fix regulations and rising insurance premiums, which they say pose a treat to Australia’s economy.
