The town of Parkes, in the central west region of New South Wales, played an instrumental role in bringing man's first steps on the moon to the watching world. But the iconic 'Dish' is not now simply a couple of pages in a history book but still paving the way for greater discoveries in the cosmos. Astronomer Dr Jane Kaczmarek says 'Australia is leading the way in radio-astronomy'. A new receiver was installed in the 60-year-old dish this year.
