Deloitte Access Economics partner Nicki Hutley says Australia’s economy is caught in the middle of the US-China trade dispute. Speaking to Sky News on Monday, Ms Hutley said “increased uncertainty has a direct impact on business investment so that’s just not going to help the economy when we’ve already got that slowing momentum”. “If there’s additional uncertainty it doesn’t help anyone, certainly not the Chinese economy on which we are so dependent,” she said. Ms Hutley said she did not expect the two economic heavy-weights to reach an agreement anytime soon. “Trump says he’s keen to negotiate a deal, but we’re not seeing any signs of that and as tough as he can be, the Chinese I think can be tougher,” she said.
