December jobs figures from the ABS were released on Thursday with conomists predicting the unemployment rate to hold steady about 5.2 per cent. In November, figures showed about 40,000 jobs were created, pushing the unemployment rate down from 5.3 to 5.2 per cent. Sky News Business reporter Edward Boyd said if the unemployment rate did not stay stable at 5.2 per cent, then “there is a very good chance the RBA will cut interest rates next month from 0.75 per cent to 0.5 per cent”.
