India has vowed to be net zero by 2070 – two decades after the timeline set by global scientists. Prime Minister Narendra Modi defended the target at the COP26 climate talks. He said India has stuck to its climate pledges, and that the country was responsible for only five per cent of global emissions. Mr Modi told the conference of world leaders India would increase renewable energy to 50 per cent by 2030.
