Morrison defends leaked text amid French fury

The prime minister wants to draw a line under the French fury over Australia's dumped submarine deal, saying both sides should move on. Tensions have increased in the wake of French President Emmanuel Macron branding Mr Morrison a liar over the scrapped deal. French Ambassador to Australia Jean-Pierre Thebault delivered a scathing assessment on Wednesday of how Prime Minister Scott Morrison has handled matters. However, a leaked private text message from Mr Macron to Scott Morrison appears to cast doubt on the French claim that they were blindsided by the AUKUS partnership. The French ambassador has responded angrily, calling this an unprecedented low in the relationship and warning about the consequences this could have on other foreign allies. Mr Morrison said he had to refute the claims.
