Morrison defends nuclear subs contract

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has issued a fiery response after the French president accused him of lying amid the nuclear submarine fallout. Emmanual Macron is furious after Australia cancelled a $90-billion-dollar submarine deal, instead negotiating a new trilateral pact with the US and UK. On the G20 summit sidelines, the French President claimed he was blindsided by the decision to a journalist. But Mr Morrison has denied he was dishonest, saying France knew the submarines was 'absolute before they hit the water'. Two days before Scott Morrison announced the formation of the AUKUS alliance in September, he said he tried to set up a call with the French president to inform him. Mr Macron messaged the Prime Minister to ask if he should 'expect good to bad news'. On the day of the announcement, the French president refused to take Australia's call, which Morrison believes was because he knew what it was about. The PM says President Macron's actions and slurs have offended Australia.
