Scott Morrison addresses COP26 summit

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has delivered a more positive message than some of the 'doom and gloom' rhetoric of other leaders in his address to the COP26 Climate Summit in Glasgow. Leaders such as UK PM Boris Johnson have ramped up the rhetoric at Glasgow – saying it's a "minute to midnight" to act on climate change. Prince Charles has called the COP26 summit a "last chance saloon" to act on climate change before it's too late. PM Scott Morrison's approach to emissions reductions has been centred around low cost and low emitting technologies. Mr Morrison said Australia found a vaccine for coronavirus within a year - why can't it build up the technologies to reduce emissions? He said his aim at Glasgow is not to force developing countries – like India and China – into action but to encourage money from governments towards technology to help reduce emissions. "The fundamental point is – if we want the whole world's emissions to go down then the technologies that drive that, we have to drive their cost down," Mr Morrison told reporters in Glasgow.
