The World Health Organisation has issued a grave warning for European countries over the alarming spread of the Delta variant, declaring the continent as the epicentre of COVID-19. Europe registered a 55 per cent rise in COVID infections in the last month despite the availability of vaccines. Meanwhile, the number of deaths rose by 12 per cent in the last seven days. WHO's Regional Director for Europe says the continent is once again the epicentre of the virus. According to current projections, Europe will record another half a million COVID-19 deaths by February. Insufficient vaccination coverage and the relaxation of public health measures have been blamed for the rise in cases.
