January 03, 2020. Emergency Services Minister Lisa Neville updates the media on the fire conditions currently on the ground across Victoria, and the expectations for the coming weekend as a state of disaster comes into effect. Neville says that there is nearly 800,000 hectares of fire already burnt, up from 200,000 at the beginning of the week, and that the column of smoke over Gippsland is nearly 1,000 meters thick. She discusses the movable boundaries of the evacuation areas around the East Gippsland shire, Mansfield shire, Wellington shire, Wangaratta rural shire, Towong shire, Alpine shire and the Mount Buller, Mount Hotham, Mount Stirling and Falls Creek Alpine resorts.
