Rescuers Search Demolished Buildings After Deadly Earthquake in Turkey

At least 14 people were killed after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Turkey on January 24, Turkish media reported. More than 500 were injured in the earthquake. The earthquake occurred near the border between Turkey’s Malatya and Elazig provinces, affecting the city of Elazig and many small towns nearby, reports said. Soon after the initial quake, the province was shaken further by a series of aftershocks reportedly ranging from magnitude 5.4 to 3.3. At least 30 aftershocks had been logged. Local media said several buildings were “demolished” in Elazig’s city center.
