‘Too late to leave’: Vic residents told to take immediate shelter from fires

An unprecedented state of disaster remains in place across Victoria, with authorities warning the danger is far from over. While parts of the state woke to showers on Monday, fire authorities say it will do little to lessen the danger of blazes. Emergency warnings have been issued on Monday for Wangarabell, Wroxham and Wingan River, where residents have been told to take immediate shelter indoors because it is too late to leave. Two people have died in the state since the beginning of the bushfire season and another two remain unaccounted for on Monday. More than 1.1 million hectares of land has been scorched across the state and more than 110 homes have been lost – with authorities expecting that number to rise significantly.
