Defence Minister Peter Dutton is locked in high level talks with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin at the Pentagon – with Australia, US and UK to make a landmark national security announcement this morning. Australia is looking to take part in a new alliance with the US and the UK in what will be a strong message to China about Australia's presence in the South China sea in south-east Asia and the Indo-Pacific. Joe Biden will speak at 7am AEST today to announce shared capabilities between the US and Australia around the submarine program and the sharing of nuclear capabilities – putting into question the $90 billion French submarine contract.
