NSW students to return to school one week early

NSW students will return to the classroom a week earlier than planned. It comes as almost 50 per cent of children between the ages of 12 and 15 have now received their first dose of COVID vaccine. Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the decision is because of the high vaccine uptake in NSW, which has allowed the government to review when students can return. Kindergarten, year one and year 12 students will go back on October 18, while those in year two, year six and year 11 will go back on October 25, and the remaining grades will go back on November 1. Senior ministers considered bringing the date forward by two weeks instead but decided on October 18 to give teachers more time to get vaccinated.
