Creek in Northern Washington Rages as State of Emergency Declared

Heavy rain sent floodwater gushing through northern Washington on November 15, as an atmospheric river brought strong winds and rain to the Pacific Northwest. Whatcom County Government said around 500 people had been displaced due to the severe weather, with three shelters established at local school and church buildings. The severe wind and rainstorms prompted Washington Gov Jay Inslee to declare a severe weather state of emergency in 14 counties. Bellingham Parks and Recreation posted this video showing the swollen Squalicum Creek flowing through Cornwall Park in the city. The National Weather Service recorded winds of up to 49 mph in Bellingham. The most powerful gust during the weather event was 93 mph, recorded at Mount Baker.
