The Centre for Independent Studies’ Glenn Fahey says “it’s high time” phonics were included in the New South Wales curriculum. The NSW government has unveiled the new English and mathematics syllabuses for the state’s youngest learners, which includes the mandatory use of phonics in the English syllabus. “The question of course, is why is it happening today and not 30 years ago,” Mr Fahey told Sky News host Peta Credlin. “We’ve known the evidence behind phonics-based reading instruction for many years.”
