Mass evacuations by sea and air are underway at small isolated towns in East Gippsland as the death toll from Victoria’s bushfires rises to two and the number of people unaccounted for soars to 28. The largest exodus is taking place in Mallacoota - where locals have been surrounded by flames and sheltering on the beach for days - ahead of extremely dangerous conditions forecast for Saturday. A State of Disaster has been declared for six local government areas — the first time such powers have been used in Victoria. Image: News Corp Australia
