FBI Director Wray Apologizes to US Gymnasts Accusing FBI of Mishandling Nassar Sexual Abuse Reports

FBI Director Christopher Wray apologized before the Senate Judiciary Committee on September 15, after US National Team gymnasts accused the bureau of mishandling sexual abuse reports they filed against former team doctor Larry Nassar. Video shows Wray speaking after Simone Biles, McKayla Maroney, Maggie Nichols, and Aly Raisman delivered opening statements as part of the committee’s investigation into the FBI’s response to allegations of Nassar’s sexual abuse when he was a doctor with USA Gymnastics and at Michigan State University. Biles, Maroney, Nichols, and Raisman accused the FBI of mishandling their reports of sexual abuse. “I’m deeply and profoundly sorry to each and every one of you,” Wray said. “That is inexcusable. It never should have happened. And we are doing everything in our power to make sure that it never happens again.” Nassar was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison and was accused of sexual abuse by more than 150 women and girls.
