Hurricane Cleanup Efforts Continue in Southern Louisiana

Cleanup efforts continued in Louisiana after Ida hit the region as a Category 4 hurricane on August 29, packing maximum sustained winds of 150 mph and causing widespread damage to coastal areas of the state. Video from Jefferson Parish Councilman Scott Walker shows bulldozers moving across a mud-covered street in Barataria on Sunday morning, September 5. Walker called the task “painstaking.” A temporary bridge was constructed on Saturday to aid emergency vehicles get from Lafitte to the Barataria side of the waterway, after the existing Lou Kerner Swing Bridge was damaged by a barge during the storm.
