Residents Survey Hurricane Nicholas Damage in Sargent, Texas

Properties were damaged the coastal community of Sargent, Texas, following the arrival of Hurricane Nicholas on the gulf coast on Tuesday, September 14. Video streamed via Facebook Live by local resident Beth Splawn shows damage to homes and debris covering roadways in Sargent, a coastal town in Matagorda County. Splawn told Storyful she took this video driving along Heron Road on Tuesday morning. Hurricane Nicholas made landfall as a Category 1 storm early Tuesday morning on the eastern Matagorda Peninsula, bringing maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported. Nicholas was downgraded to a tropical storm and forecast to bring heavy rainfall and life-threatening flooding to the upper Texas coast, Louisiana, southern Mississippi, and southern Alabama through mid-week, according to the NHC.
