Roads Flooded in Galveston, Texas, After Storm Nicholas Hits Gulf Coast

Properties were damaged and flooding reported in Galveston, Texas, after the arrival of Hurricane Nicholas on the Gulf Coast on Tuesday, September 14. Video posted to Instagram by Honi Alexander shows ankle-deep floodwater, which she said was affecting Galveston on Tuesday. Hurricane Nicholas made landfall as a Category 1 storm early Tuesday morning on the eastern Matagorda Peninsula, bringing maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported. Nicholas was downgraded to a tropical storm and forecast to bring heavy rainfall and life-threatening flooding to the upper Texas coast, Louisiana, southern Mississippi, and southern Alabama through mid-week, according to the NHC.
