Australia and US hold bilateral talks

President Joe Biden says the US has 'no closer ally' than Australia – acknowledging the long history and renewed partnership. President Biden met Prime Minister Scott Morrison in New York – both welcoming their new security ties in a bilateral meeting. The pair praised the strength of their alliance, saying they are committed to a 'free and open Indo-Pacific'. They're due to meet again on Friday at the White House along with the leaders of India and Japan. Stability and security is expected to top the agenda. The meeting comes as tensions between France and Australia rise over the axing of a $90 billion submarine deal. France has condemned Australia's decision – which has also strained its alliance with the EU.
