The KNP Complex Fire in California’s Sequoia National Park grew to 33,046 acres (about 52 square miles) with zero percent containment by September 23, officials said. Lightning ignited the blaze on September 10, according to officials. An air quality alert was issued for the area on Wednesday, with residents cautioned to “stay indoors if possible” and “avoid prolonged outdoor physical activities.” The wildfire prompted authorities to wrap the base of the world’s largest tree in aluminum.
