Canadian election: Justin Trudeau’s support ‘definitely on the wane’

Right out of the blocks after calling an early election, Justin Trudeau has "fallen flat on his face" as his campaign to win majority government is proving to be difficult, according to Ipsos Public Affairs CEO Darrell Bricker. It comes as around 27 million eligible Canadian voters participate in the parliamentary elections – which Prime Minister Trudeau called two years early. A CBC News poll released before the election showed Trudeau’s Liberal Party with a less than one percentage point lead over Erin O’Toole’s Conservatives. Mr Bricker discussed the emerging voting patterns with Sky News Australia. "What we're seeing in Canada is voting is pretty regional," Mr Bricker said. "The prime minister and his Liberal Party tends to do well in Ontario through to the East Coast whereas Erin O'Toole and his Conservative Party tends to do better as you go west. "The real question is how Ontario (the largest province in Canada) is going to vote this time – and it's pretty close." Mr Bricker said Prime Minister Trudeau's support is "definitely on the wane".
