PM Scott Morrison defends submarine deal

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has defended his decision to scrap a 90-billion-dollar submarine contract with France – declaring it is in the national interest. It comes as Paris recalled its ambassadors to Australia and the US in an unprecedented move. As part of the new AUKUS agreement –the government will instead buy at least eight nuclear-powered submarines. The deal means Australia will become just the seventh nation in the world to operate nuclear-powered submarines. Deputy Director for the Foundation for Strategic Research Bruno Tertrais discussed the issue with Sky News Australia.
