Rescue Crews Search Apartment Complex After Deadly Flooding in Rockville, Maryland

Dozens of people were evacuated from apartment buildings in Rockville, Maryland, on Wednesday, September 1, after Tropical Depression Ida brought flash flooding to the greater Washington area, the National Hurricane Center said. A 19-year-old male was found deceased and one resident remained unaccounted for as of Wednesday morning, according to Montgomery County Police. Four people, including one firefighter, were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. According to police, around 150 residents were displaced by the flooding while 50 apartments were impacted and about 12 apartments were flooded. This footage released on Twitter by Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service’s chief spokesperson Pete Piringer shows a rescue boat at the Rock Creek Woods apartment complex on Twinbrook Parkway, where flooded roads and apartments, power outages, and stranded people were reported, according to the tweet. At least six prior deaths have been attributed to Ida after it made landfall on August 29, causing dangerous storm surges and widespread flooding to impacted regions.
