Demand for At-Home Rapid Tests Surges in Maryland

A line stretched around the Westfield Annapolis shopping mall in Maryland on Wednesday morning, December 22, as county officials distributed a dwindling supply of free at-home rapid COVID-19 testing kits on a first-come, first-served basis. Anne Arundel County said free test kits would be distributed at the mall that day between 10 am and 4 pm. This video was posted just before 10:15 am by Lauren Smith, who in recent days tweeted that COVID-19 was spreading through her family “like wildfire.” The county’s website initially listed 17 locations where at-home rapid antigen tests could be picked up at various times between Monday and Friday. By Wednesday morning, however, most sites had run out and only eight locations were still distributing kits. The surge in demand and limited supply prompted the county to announce on Tuesday that only two boxes would be given to each household. Credit: Lauren Smith via Storyful
