A line of people waited outside a public library at a mall in Annapolis, Maryland, on Wednesday, December 22, amid high demand for COVID testing kits in the area. Anne Arundel County said free test kits would be distributed at the mall that day between 10 am and 4 pm. This video was posted just before 10:30 am by Twitter user @CNSPA, who said the library had run out of testing kits “just a few minutes later” and that the line to get tests included “hundreds of people” and wrapped “at least halfway around the mall itself.” The county’s website initially listed 17 locations where at-home rapid antigen tests could be picked up at various times between Monday and Friday. By Wednesday morning, however, most sites had run out and only eight locations were still distributing kits. The surge in demand and limited supply prompted the county to announce on Tuesday that only two boxes would be available to each household. On Tuesday, President Joe Biden said that 500 million at-home COVID-19 tests would be sent to Americans beginning in January 2022 as part of a plan to combat a rise in cases.
