The United Kingdom has recorded a steep rise in COVID cases – reporting over 183,000 new infections. It's more than 50,000 cases higher than the previous record. It comes as the number of patients in hospital with COVID-19 grew by 916 – up to 10,500. According to NHS data – 771 of those patients are on ventilators – a figure that has remained steady through December. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said a large number of people in hospital are unvaccinated or haven't received a booster.
