Police officers came to the aid of a trapped livery driver in New York City’s Central Park on September 1, as the remnants of Hurricane Ida triggered the area’s first ever flash flood emergency. This video released by NYPD News shows officers carrying a driver from floodwaters on the 65th Street Transverse. Officials reported record rainfall in Central Park, where over 3 inches of rain fell in an hour, between 8:51 pm and 9:51 pm on September 1. As of the afternoon of September 2, more than two dozen people had been killed by the storm in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, according to the New York Times. Credit: NYPD NEWS via Storyful
