Language used by Biden administration is ‘quite significant’ amid Beijing boycott

Sky News Washington Correspondent Annelise Nielsen says the language used by the Biden administration in announcing the diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games is "quite significant". "They have singled out genocide in Xinjiang against the Uyghur Muslim minority in China," Ms Nielsen told Sky News Australia. "But they've also talked about broad human rights abuses within China." Under the move, American athletes could still compete, but the government will not send any representatives. "What's really motivated this over the last week has been the disappearance of the star tennis player Peng Shuai," Ms Nielsen said.
