‘Every vaccine has a risk’ but rate of severe adverse reactions is ‘very low’

The Grattan Institute's Dr Stephen Duckett says “every vaccine has a risk” but he is planning to get the AstraZeneca vaccine because the risk of a severe adverse reaction is “very low”. “Every vaccine has a risk and we can’t deny that but don’t forget that for every 100,000 people who arrive in Australia, go into hotel quarantine, there are five breaches of the quarantine to date,” he said. “So, although we’ve got no COVID circulating right now, there’s going to be another breach of quarantine, there’s going to be another chance that you might actually get COVID”. “So it’s better to be protected”.
