Flashes of lightning illuminated a cloudy night sky over Atwood, Kansas, on May 26 as forecasters issued tornado warnings for parts of the state. The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Herndon, 15 miles northeast of Atwood. A flash flood warning was also issued to the north.
