Israel may see a ‘national unity government’ replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Benjamin Netanyahu’s era as Israel’s prime minister could be coming to an end as far right party leader Naftali Bennett is “siding with a new opposition coalition”, according to Sky News contributor Michael Ware. Israel's opposition parties are moving closer to reaching an agreement that could mean the end of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's 12 years in power. Mr Bennett, leader of the small Yamina party and a kingmaker following elections held in March, said he would join a diverse collection of opponents - including the country's opposition leader, Yair Lapid - to form a unity government and topple Mr Netanyahu. The pair have until Wednesday to complete a deal in which they are expected to each serve two years as prime minister on rotation. A self-made millionaire, Mr Bennett, 49, is a former Netanyahu aide turned rival. Mr Ware said the coalition was made up of centrist, leftist, and Arab political parties who only hold “their opposition to Netanyahu.” “The reason he says he’s done this is that he believes the country has no other choice, he says it’s either a coalition government or a national unity government or more elections, and that would make it the fifth round of elections in over two years.”
