Current and former police officers are sounding the alarm about dangerously lax security in the United States Capitol. They say the January 6 riot highlighted major lapses which still have not been properly addressed. Tensions between police officers and lawmakers have also been strained since the attack, especially after Georgia representative Andrew Clyde said the insurrection looked like a “normal tourist visit”. More than 70 officers have quit since January 6 and more resignations are expected soon, with thinning ranks leaving those who remain unable to take days off.
