Liberal Party Council meets for last time ahead of next election

The Liberal Party is gathering in Canberra for its annual Federal Council which will be its last before the next federal election. As a result, no controversial motions have been put forward and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and SA Premier Steven Marshall have both heaped praise on Prime Minister Scott Morrison for his leadership during the pandemic. The policy motions which have been passed include the abolition of student union fees, a strategic oil reserve to ensure there is 90 days’ worth of supply in the country, the cancellation of the belt and road agreement and a streamlining of the mining approval processes. However, the policies which are passed by the council will not necessarily become legislation, but are a reflection of what is believed by the grassroots.
