There is no solution to Gaza tensions ‘because none of the parties want a solution’

The conflict between Israel and Palestine will not be resolved because “none of the parties want a solution” but the situation is likely to end in a temporary ceasefire, according to former Australian ambassador to Israel Peter Rodgers. “There is no solution in this because none of the parties involved want a solution, they want a pause perhaps, they want some calm but they’re not prepared to do a deal," he told Sky News. “There is a script for all this, this just a variation on the script, there’s nothing particularly new … The US will continue to protect Israel in the UN security council, the Israelis pound Gaza for the next few days and then there will be some sort of ceasefire but it’ll only be a pause". Mr Rodgers said there was “no effective way” for Israel to eliminate the threat of Hamas except through complete control of Gaza which is not an option and any resolution will come down to the United Nations. “The Biden administration I think unwillingly will continue to protect Israel in the security council until the security council has a resolution which attributes blame to both sides."
