NSW Emergency Services Minister David Elliott says as Sydney's population continues to explode, particularly in its northwest, it is worth having the debate of increasing the height of Warragamba Dam. Warragamba Dam has spilled over as a result of heavy rain and flash-flooding plaguing the state. "A dam for all intents and purpose should be available for both flood mitigation and water storage," Mr Elliott told Sky News. "The northwest of Sydney has been an area where growth has been so significant ... it's worth having the debate. "It was supposed to be done 25 years ago, Bob Carr cancelled that particular project, and unfortunately the population in northwestern Sydney has exploded again." Mr Elliott said with the continued downpour in catchment areas, further pressure would be put on the Nepean and Hawkesbury rivers in Sydney's west and northwest.
