Greater Brisbane to be plunged into 72-hour lockdown from tonight

Greater Brisbane will enter a three-day lockdown from 5pm this afternoon after recording four new locally acquired infections in the past 24 hours. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk this morning confirmed two of the new infections were known contacts of a previous case, with the other two under investigation. She also announced face masks will also be made mandatory and household gatherings limited to 30 people across Queensland after one of the infected people travelled to Gladstone. “I know this will mean some disruption to people’s lives but we’ve done this before and we’ve got through it over those three days in the past and if everyone does the right thing I’m sure that we will be able to get through it again,” Ms Palaszczuk said. “This is a protective measure but it’s absolutely the right thing to do based on the health advice.” Under the lockdown restrictions, residents of Greater Brisbane will only be allowed to leave their home for four essential reasons – including for food, exercise, essential work and for medical reasons. Schools will also be shut from tomorrow.
