Day three of Chauvin’s trial was a ‘day of distress’

Day three of the trial of Derek Chauvin’s murder of George Floyd was an “emotionally devastating day” as footage from police body camera was paired with bystanders’ footage of the attack according to US politics expert Michael Ware. “The world has seen the video footage that bystanders filmed, today we saw police bodycam footage threaded together with the public footage,” he told Sky News. Mr Ware said the footage made it feel as if “you were right there on top of George Floyd” and the trial has brought the trauma of George Floyd’s death to the forefront as a witness on the stand broke down recounting what had happened. “Rewatching the video and hearing the audio he became so distressed he started sobbing uncontrollably and court had to be adjourned.” Mr Ware said the witnesses who had been called all “knew what they were watching was wrong” and had an extremely different reaction to Derek Chauvin. “Take those reactions and compare them to Derek Chauvin the police officer himself, we heard from him for perhaps the first and only time in this trial on his own bodycam as Floyd’s body was put into the ambulance and as Chauvin was getting back into his car he’s cool, he’s calm, he’s emotional.”
